message action. A program is not required to interpret additional sense data to
determine if an operator message is required.

When bits 6–7 are ‘10’, a message to the operator is to be sent once within a retry
sequence on a path whether or not the retry action is successful.

When bits 6–7 are ‘11’, a message is sent to the operator only if the error condition
persists through all retry actions on a path.

Conditions that cause the operator message control to be set to ‘01’ are:

Intervention is required

Sense Byte 25–Program Action Code

This byte informs the error recovery programs (ERPs) what recovery actions to
take. See “ERP Actions” on page 7-6 for details on the recovery actions.

Sense Bytes 26 and 27–Configuration Data

Internal Disk sets these bytes to '4E60'x. The active bits in bytes 26 and 27 show:
