Sense Byte 5–Device Type Code

For exception classes 4 and E this byte contains a code that defines the device
type and model. For 9GB Ultrastar2 XP drives on the Internal Disk Subsystem, the
code is X

If the device model is not known, byte 5 is set to X

Sense Byte 6–Content and Format

Sense byte 6 indicates the validity of other sense bytes and defines the format of
bytes 7 through 19.

For exception class 0 the value of byte 6 bit 0 should be ignored.

Sense Bytes 7 through 19

The contents of sense bytes 7–14 depend on the format (byte 6, bits 4–7) and the
exception class (byte 22, bits 0–3). See “Sense Data Dependent on Exception
Class” on page 6-10 for descriptions of sense data for the exception classes.

Sense Bytes 20 and 21–Subsystem Identifier

Bytes 20 and 21 contain the SSID(Subsystem Identifier).

Sense Bytes 22 and 23–Exception Code

Byte 22, bits 0–3 contain the exception class. The remainder of bytes 22 and 23
depends on the exception class, and further defines the error. For a summary of
the exception classes, see Table 6-1 on page 6-2. For details on the exception
classes and their formats, see “Sense Data Dependent on Exception Class” on
page 6-10.
