Byte 1, Bit 1–Invalid Track Format:
Indicates that an invalid track condition is set
for the following:
1. An update write operation is attempted on a record whose size differs from the
record size parameter (TLF).
2. An attempt is made to exceed the track capacity of the track.
3. A previously invalid track is encountered on a read operation.
Byte 1, Bit 3 –Message to Operator:
Not used (zero), except for incomplete
domain exceptions. When message to operator is set to ‘1’, byte 24, bits 6 and 7
are set to ‘01’ (operator message unconditional).
Byte 1, Bit 5–File Protected:
Indicates that an attempt to step to a track outside
the defined extent during a Locate Record operation. This sets imprecise ending
(byte 1, bit 7) and I/O program exception. Byte 22 bits 4–7 indicate a protection
exception.
Byte 1, Bit 7–Imprecise Ending:
Occurs for an abnormal channel program
ending in a Locate Record or Locate Record Extended domain, and the exception
status is for a previously completed CCW (one that has received ending status).
This bit shows that the channel status information is not in synchronism with the
command being processed by the Internal Disk. This condition can occur when a
write operation is terminated due to an error related to the execution of a write
command that has already received normal ending status.
This bit with other bits in bytes 0–1 is set to indicate that the error may not be
associated with the CCW that was unit checked.
Sense Byte 2–Control Unit Type
This byte contains an 8-bit code that identifies the control unit type, model, and
features. This is the same information as in byte 56 of the data returned by the
Read Device Characteristics command. For Internal Disk the value is X
'
1E
'
.
Sense Byte 3–Remaining Intent Count
When the exception condition reported by this sense data occurred within the
domain of a Locate Record or Locate Record Extended, this byte contains the
number of the “Count” parameter from the preceding Locate Record command
minus the number of transfer units (records or tracks) that were successfully
transferred to the logical volume or to the channel within an interrupted Locate
Record or Locate Record Extended domain.
Sense Byte 4–Logical Volume Address
For exception classes 4 and E, this byte contains the logical volume address as
seen by the control unit.
This byte is zero for exception class 0.
