Format 0–Program or System Checks

This format reports program or system check conditions.

Sense Bytes 8 through 23 for Format 0

Format 0 sense bytes 8 through 23 contain the following:

Format 0 Messages

Message 0–No Message:

Occurs if the program check is defined in bytes 0–2.

Additional information (Reason Codes) may be provided in byte 8. Some or all of
bytes 15–23 may be set to zeros.

Message 1–Invalid Command:

Occurs when the Internal Disk receives a

command it does not support.

Message 2–Invalid Command Sequence:

Occurs when commands are not in

the correct sequence. See the specific command for the possible reason for this
message.

Message 3–CCW Count Less Than Required:

Occurs when the byte count in

the channel command word is less than required. See the specific command for
the possible reason for this message.

Message 4–Invalid Parameter:

Occurs when a data argument of a command is

not valid. See the specific command for the possible reason for this message.

Message 5–6:

Reserved.

Message 7–Channel Returned with Incorrect Retry CCW:

Occurs when the

command portion of the CCW returned after a command retry sequence does not
match the command for which retry was signaled.

Message 8–Reset Notification:

Occurs when a system reset or its equivalent is

received on an interface. The unit check that generates this sense data is
presented to the next channel-initiated selection following the resetting event. See
“Reset Notification” on page 2-10 for more information.

The first selection of a logical volume on the reset interface receives this format 0,
message 8, sense data with equipment check. The program action code is X
