This chapter describes how to install additional HPE StoreOnce 5250/5650 Drawer Upgrade Kits
(BB966A and BB968A).

IMPORTANT:

Use the capacity upgrade disk packs to completely fill an enclosure before adding

another enclosure.

NOTE:

The StoreOnce 5250 System has a maximum configuration of two storage enclosures: the base

enclosure plus one upgrade storage enclosure. The StoreOnce 5650 System has a maximum
configuration of four storage enclosures: the base enclosure plus three upgrade enclosures.

If your system has been supplied, configured to order, with the maximum expansion, all storage will be
licensed and configured with the system. You must cable the storage enclosures in the correct sequence.

If you purchased storage separately or after the initial installation, the new storage must be licensed and
configured with the system before it is available for use. The license entitlement certificate is included with
the upgrade kit contents.

Important safety information

CAUTION:

Use extreme caution when installing and pulling units from the rack. The units can slip

and fall, causing injury or damage to the StoreOnce System. Hewlett Packard Enterprise is not
responsible for any injury or damage caused by the mishandling of the StoreOnce System.

WARNING:

The storage enclosure with the base configuration of 15 drives installed weighs 107 kg

(236 lbs). With all drives and components installed, the enclosure weighs 160 kg (352 lb). To reduce
the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment:

• Observe local occupational health and safety requirements and guidelines for manual material

handling.

• Use caution and get help to lift and stabilize storage enclosures during installation or removal,

especially when the storage enclosure is not fastened to the rack.

Storage enclosure rack locations

Before installing the rails, plan where to put the upgrade storage enclosure in the rack.

The base enclosure that comes with the system (JBOD 1) is installed under the server node.

Install the first capacity upgrade enclosure (JBOD 2) immediately above the server node. Then alternate
under and above the server node as you add capacity upgrade enclosures to the system. A StoreOnce
5250 System at maximum configuration has one storage enclosure under and one above the server
node. A StoreOnce 5650 System at maximum configuration has two storage enclosures under and two
above the server node.
