U sing  J  5403  snap  ring  pliers,  install  sw itch  retaining
ring  w ith  high  p oint  o f  curved  sides  adjacent  to  the
sw itch housing.  Be  sure  retaining ring  is  properly  seated
in  the  sw itch  cavity  retainer  ring  groove.  L eak  test
referring to “C om pressor L eak T esting”  in this  section.

Remove or Disconnect

R ecover refrigerant.

R em ove control valve retaining ring using J 5403
internal snap ring pliers.

R em ove control valve assem bly.

Install or Connect

1.

W hen reassem bling control valve, coat O -rings w ith 525
viscosity refrigeration oil and push in place w ith thum b
pressure.

Using J 5403  snap ring pliers,  install valve retaining ring
w ith high point o f curved sides against valve housing.  Be
sure  retaining  ring  is  properly  seated  in  ring  groove.
Leak test referring to  “C om pressor L eak T esting”  in this
section.

COMPRESSOR LEAK TESTING

(EXTERNAL)

Bench-Check Procedure

1.

With sealing w ashers in place, install test plate
J 962 5 -A on rear head o f com pressor.

2.

Attach center hose o f m anifold gage set on charging

station to a refrigerant drum standing in an upright

position and open valve on drum .

3.

Connect  charging  station  high  and  low   pressure  lines  to
corresponding  fittings  on  test  plate  J  9 6 2 5 -A ,  using
J  5420  gage  adapters  or  hoses  equipped  w ith  valve
depressors and J 3810 0 -C  R efrigerant R ecovery System .
Suction port  (low -side)  o f com pressor has  large  internal
opening.  D ischarge  port  (high-side)  has  sm aller  internal
opening into com pressor.

4.

Open  low  pressure  control,  high-pressure  control  and
refrigerant  control  on  charging  station  to  allow
refrigerant vapor to  flow   into com pressor.

5.

Using  a  leak  detector,  check  for  leaks  at  pressure  relief
valve,  rear  head  sw itch  location,  com pressor  front  and
rear  head  seals,  through  bolt  head  gaskets  and
com pressor  shaft  seal.  A fter  checking,  shut  o ff  low
pressure  control  and  high-pressure  control  on  charging
station.

6.

If  an  external  leak  is  present,  perform   the  necessary
corrective  m easures  and  recheck  for  leaks  to  m ake
certain the  leak has  been  corrected.

7.

R ecover refrigerant.

8.

Disconnect both gage adapters J 5420 or hoses from the

test plate J 9 6 2 5 -A and rem ove test plate.
