3.3 STABILITY OF PLANTING UNIT AND TRACTOR
DURING TRANSPORT
When a planting unit is coupled to a tractor, so becoming an
integral part of it for the purposes of road travel, the stability of the
planting unit-tractor complex may change and cause driving or
operating difficulties (rearing up or side-slipping of the tractor).
The condition of equilibrium can be restored by placing a sufficient
number of ballasts on the front of the tractor so that the weights
on the two tractor axles are distributed sufficiently evenly.
To work in safety the instructions given in the highway code should
be followed; these prescribe that at least 20% of the weight of the
tractor alone should be borne by the front axle and that the weight
on the arms of the hoist should not be more than 30% of the
weight of the tractor itself. These factors are summarized in the
following formulas:
M x s < 0.2 x T x i + Z x (d+i) Z > (M x s)-(0.2 x T x i)
(d+i)
M < 0.3 x T
The amount of ballast that should be applied according to the
formula is the minimum required for circulation on the road. If for
reasons of tractor performance or to improve the set-up of the
planting unit during operation it is thought necessary to raise
these values, please refer to the registration document of the
tractor to check its limits.
When the formula for calculating the ballast gives a negative
result it will not be necessary to add any weight. In any case, as
long as the limits of the tractor are respected, a suitable quantity
of weights may be applied in order to ensure greater stability
during travel. Check that the tractor tyres are suitable for the load.
The symbols have the following meanings:
(please see fig. 12 for reference)
3.4 DISTRIBUTION
The VITIGREEN planter is composed of three mechanical/electric
systems for measuring out the seed.
1) Electric motor;
2) Distributing rollers;
3) Drive gears.
Their parts and functions are described below.
3.4.1 ELECTRIC MOTOR
The VITIGREEN model is driven by a 12 V electric motor (Fig. 13),
equipped with two gear ratios that allow a speed, which can be
selected from the consol (Fig. 14), of 40 rpm (VEL. 1) and 64 rpm
(VEL. 2) with current absorption of approx. 2 A.
The lower speed (VEL. 1) is normally used, while the higher
speed (VEL. 2) is used for distributing large quantities of seed.
Connection of the tractor to the electrical system is very simple:
connect the cables marked with the symbols to their respective
poles on the battery. We also recommend making the battery
electrical connection using a simple system that will allow you to
connect and disconnect rapidly and safely.
IMPORTANT: you can check for instability in the connection
using the cigarette lighter socket in the cabin.
CAUTION
Danger of shocks. Beware of electric shocks.
There are three switches on the consol (Fig. 14):
A "ON/OFF" master switch: this switches on the electrical
system, starts the motor and consequently the distribution of
seed.
B VEL. 1 and VEL. 2 switch: this selects the speed of the electric
motor and therefore the change in distribution rate.
CAUTION: this control does not determine the seed planting
speed.
C Seed planting / sowing test switch: this is used in "seed
planting" position during normal work operations; "Sowing
Test" is selected only when seed distribution setting
operations are to be carried out (chapter 3.3.5).
