Do I need to download any additional software to
develop applications using Visual Studio 2003?
Yes. You need to download and install the CE Utilities for
VS. NET 2003 Add-on Pack v.1.1. This updates the files
for smart device development and adds an option for
connecting to the ARMV4I processor through the
VS.NET IDE using ActiveSync.
Can I use Visual Studio 2002 to develop CE.NET
applications?
No. VS 2002 does not support smart device development.
You will have to upgraded to VS 2003 or use eMbedded
Visual C++ 4.0.
When I go to the Memory tab on System Properties, it
indicates that I only have 64 MB of memory. I thought I
had 128 MB.
Your system has two types of memory: RAM and Flash
ROM. There are 128 MB of RAM and 128 MB of flash
ROM in the CT2000 tablet.
Of the 128 MB of RAM, 64 MB are used to store data and
applications; the other 64 MB are used to store the system
ROM image while the system is in operation. This design
speeds up system operation considerably. The 64 MB
used for user-accessible storage are reflected in the
memory properties.
Flash ROM is “non-volatile memory”. Flash ROM is used
to permanently store the system image (i.e., the operating
system and CE applications) along with any backup
applications and data that you create. There are 128 MB
of flash ROM. Approximately 64 MB are used for the
system image, while the other 64 MB of ROM are used as
an area to store your backup files and applications.
The important thing to remember about the two types of
memory is that RAM is volatile. That is, if you perform a
cold boot or initialize the system, all data and programs
in RAM will be lost. ROM, on the other hand, is not
affected by a cold boot or re-initialization. That’s why it’s
a good place to backup your data and applications.
