Device description file, GSDML file
A device description file, GSDML file, is needed for configuration and parameterisation of the bus
node. The device description file contains all information required to integrate the module into the
higher-order controller.

Setting up automation project and controller
1. Start the controller software.
2. Create a new project: ‘File’
>
‘New…’.
3. Enter a project name, e.g. MSE6-C2M, PROFINET.
4. Add the controller: ‘Insert’
>
Station, e.g. ‘SIMATIC 300 Station’.
5. Expand the project tree and select the controller.
6. Open the hardware configuration window: ‘Edit’
>
‘Open Object’.
Installing the device description file
1. Open the Festo Support Portal
è www.festo.com/sp.
2. Enter the search term GSDML MSE.
3. Select, save and unpack the current device description file in the Software tab.
4. Install the device description file: ‘Options’
>
‘Install GSD File…’. Select the file path of the device
description file: ‘Browse’. Select and install the file: ‘Install’.
5. Update the hardware catalogue: ‘Options’
>
‘Update Catalog’.

Setting up automation project and controller
1. Open the hardware catalogue with the ‘View’
>
‘Catalog’ command.
2. Expand the controller in the hardware catalogue, e.g. ‘SIMATIC 300’ and the folder structure.
3. Expand the ‘RACK-300’ folder.
4. Add the profile rail of the controller.
5. Reproduce the controller configuration using the components from the rack rail table in the
hardware catalogue.
Row 1, ‘Slot 1’, is reserved, e.g. or a fixed power supply.
Creating a PROFIBUS network
1. Open the ‘Properties…’ dialogue. Right-click on the interface, e.g. select X2 and ‘Object Proper-
ties’.
2. Switch to the ‘General’ tab.
3. Click the ‘Properties’ button to open the ‘Properties Ethernet…’ dialogue.
4. Create a new network: click on the ‘New’ button and adjust specific settings.
5. Right-click on interface, e.g. X2 and ‘Insert PROFINET IO System’.
