What a re they?
'Menus' are the scree ns full of words and symbols, i n
white
lettering on a
blue
background, that appear when the MEN U
button i s pressed.
The menus are a means of making selections within the system.
They take the place of a large array of switches, buttons, knobs,
and paraphernalia that would otherwise be necessary to con trol a
mach i n e w i t h the scope of the CVI.
They are d ivided into two broad, and somewha t in ter-related
categories:
PAINT
menus and VIDEO menus.
1)
P A I NT
menus are used primarily to select options in t h e
generation and p a i n t i n g of still ima ges, a n d stencils.
2) The
VIDEO
menus a re primarily i n tended for t h e cont rol of
live vi deo images comi n g from camera or video tape.
There is a considerable degree of overlap, as l ive and still
images can be combined in a la rge number of ways, and there are
a number of functions which are equally useful for both
ca tegories.
The menus are initially entered by pressing the MENU button.
This will d isplay the last menu that was used. Me nus are blue and
white 'pages' that appear o n the screen. For purposes of p r i n t i n g,
they appear i n black and white in this manual.
Mos t menus have the title a t the very top of the d isplay and a
numbered list of items that may b e selected.
There are
two
methods of selecting i tems within the menus, t h ese
are:
1 )
The PEN and GR APHICS PAD
Apply firm pressure with stylus on GRAPHICS PAD and notice
the
cursor
appear on menu. With the stylus, move cursor to item
number that you wish to select.
Lift the stylus from the pad, with the cursor o n the relevant
number: a white square will appear around that number�
signifying selection of the item.
2)
The PUSH BUTTONS
Choose any item in the menu by pressin g the respective n u m bered
button on the CVI control console. A white square will appear
around the item number that you have selected in the menu.
NOTE:
The function of the nu meric buttons changes when a
menu is not d isplayed. For example, button

reverts to
INVERT STENCIL.
