VII. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The LARYNGOTEC
®
tracheostomy tubes are products made of medically pure silicone.
We supply the Fahl
®
tracheostomy tubes in various sizes and lengths.
Fahl
®
tracheostomy tubes are reusable medical products intended for single-patient use.
Fahl
®
tracheostomy tubes are only to be used by the same patient and not by another patient.
The package contains 1 tube, supplied sterile by ethylene oxide sterilization (EO).
When used and maintained as directed, LARYNGOTEC
®
tracheostomy tubes have an expected life on
three to six months.
Fahl
®
silicone tube
A particular feature of the Fahl
®
tracheostomy tubes is the specially shaped neck flange (not including
the KOMBI Clip model).
The variation Clip of the Fahl
®
tracheostomy tubes can be clicked into the holder of the – holding plate or
base plate directly over the tracheostoma using a fixed 22 mm ring.
The tube tip is rounded to prevent irritation of the mucus membranes in the trachea.
The standard version of the silicone tube is recommended if a normal tracheostomy tube is no longer
required, but a laryngectomy tube is required to stabilize the tracheostoma.
The KOMBI versions of the Fahl
®
tracheostomy tubes have a combi-adapter on the neck flange. It has an
opening with a diameter of 22 mm and is thereby compatible with standard filter and valve systems with a
22 mm connector. This allows the attachment of special filters for filtering, humidifying and heating the air.
There are two lateral fastening eyelets on the neck flange for attaching a tube holder. (not including the
KOMBI Clip model)
It may be advisable to use tubes of different lengths alternately so the tip of the tube does not always
touch the same spot in the trachea and cause irritation. This prevents pressure points or the formation of
granulation tissue. Always discuss the exact procedure with your doctor/physician.
Fahl
®
stoma button
This particularly short laryngectomy tube, can be gently inserted into the trachea with the rounded
tube end. Injuries to the trachea are minimised. The distal end (side facing away from the patient) of
the Fahl
®
stoma button is designed as a funnel-shaped ring and serves to secure the device outside
the tracheostoma. The stoma button is ideally suited for patients who otherwise no longer need a
tracheostomy tube to keep the tracheostoma open or to prevent the tissue from shrinking.
The shape of the Fahl
®
stoma button is optimally matched to the tracheostoma.
The fastening eyelets on the Fahl
®
stoma button are provided for attaching a tube holder and are affixed
at a specific angle in order to exert as little tension on the button as possible (see picture 1). This makes
it comfortable for the patient to wear. At the same time, the position and stability of the button in the
tracheostoma are optimised.
If a tube holder is not required or not desired because the optimal size of the stoma button has been
selected and the device is securely held in place in the tracheostoma by the bulge at the end of the tube
and the funnel-shaped holding ring, the Fahl
®
stoma button can also be ordered as a version without
fastening eyelets.
Both basic versions of the flexible Fahl
®
stoma button, with or without combi connection, are available in
standard length (22 mm) and as a short version (15 mm), and in sizes 8 to 12.
MRT (Magnetic Resonance Tomography) information
The Fahl
®
silicone tube can be worn by the patient even while undergoing magnetic resonance
tomography (MRT).
1. Neck flange
A particular feature of the Fahl
®
tracheostomy tube is the specially shaped neck flange, which is designed
to fit the anatomy of the neck.
The neck flange of the Fahl
®
tracheostomy tubes has an eyelet on each side for attaching a tube holder.
We recommend using a tube holder with plastic hooks (KACLIP
®
CLEAR tube holder, REF 32015) or an
adherent fastener to prevent the eyelets from tearing.
All Fahl
®
tracheostomy tubes with fastening eyelets include a disposable tube holder. The tube holder
secures the tracheostomy tube to the neck.
Please follow the instructions provided with the tube holder carefully when attaching and removing it from
your tracheostomy tube.
Ensure that the Fahl
®
tracheostomy tube is placed in the tracheostoma without tension and the position is
not changed when fastening the tube holder.
2. Connectors and adapters
Connectors and adapters are used to connect compatible tube accessories.
The options available to a patient depend on the clinical condition, such as status post laryngectomy or
tracheostomy.
