4.0 INSTALLATION AND CONNECTIONS
Make the final checks considering and reassessing the following points:
- Check that the mains voltage is comprised b o - 10% of the nominal value of the machine
- Check that the voltage imbalance between the different phases L1, L2, L3 does not exceed 2%
- The connection to the machine is carried out according to the diagram supplied by the Manufacturer
- The electrical power available is adequate for the equipment installed
- The section of the power cables and protections upstream of the machine are suitable for the amperage, according to the indications specified
on the chiller data plate.
Only a constant and reliable control of the parameters of a three-phase grid can guarantee the smooth and efficient working of the machine.
Voltage check
All electrical appliances can be damaged if they constantly operate on grids with voltages that are lower or higher than the normal operating
values. If there is undervoltage, for example, it is impossible to guarantee safe start-up; as in the case of a metre working in a voltage range that
is
“no
t permitted
”
, which can make the definition of its status uncertain, causing the controlled system to become unstable, damaging, if not
destroying valuable parts.
Phase imbalance check
If the energy supplied by the three-phase system has phase imbalances caused by an uneven distribution of the load, the engine converts part
of the energy into reactive power, dispersing it without being able to use it; it may also be subject to greater thermal stress.
Phase sequence
A change in the phase sequence during operation, as in the case of an incorrect phase sequence before start-up, can cause a change in the
rotation direction of the connected appliances. Compressors, pumps and fans rotating in the wrong direction over time can lead to system
malfunctioning.
Phase failure
Phase failure can easily change the system’s
operating statuses, for example disturbing the start-up of a motor. The control relay can detect a
phase failure as soon as the voltage of one of the phases falls below 60% of the nominal value.
Below is an example of a picture showing the topographic structure of the electrical panel.
