Chimney

Information for installation

pipe. The optimum to strive for is the shortest pipe from
the boiler to the chimney with a minimum of direction
changes. 
The  flue  pipe  to the chimney  must be leakproof. For
unsealed sleeve pipes, use heat-resistant silicone as a
sealant. Otherwise, you can expect smoke to escape
into the boiler room as the boiler heats up. Ensure the
flue pipe always ascends to the chimney
Long horizontal flue pipes to the chimney must have a
narrow  diameter  and  above-average  insulation  (>50
mm).  Provide  enough  cleaning  apertures  in  the  flue
pipe. A flue pipe to the chimney with a large diameter
would  reduce  the  necessary  calculated  chimney
diameter. However, with low flow speeds ash deposits
will form, and the theoretically calculated flue draught
will be lost again. 
If the chimney has a large diameter, the straight length
of the connecting pipe can be at maximum half of the
effective chimney height (calculation required).

A draught limiter is required for boilers with flue
gas recirculation

If  the  boiler  is  equipped  with  flue  gas  recirculation,
such  as  the  PE-K  pellet  boiler  (or  eHack  wood  chip
boilers with optional flue gas recirculation), a draught
limiter must always be installed in the chimney.

Flue  gas  recirculation  conveys  a  portion  of  the
flue gas back to the boiler to cool the combustion

chamber. An  overly  strong  flue  draught  prevents  the
recirculation to the boiler and the flue gas reaches the

chimney immediately, thus rendering the flue gas recir-
culation  ineffective. This  leads  to  slag  formation  and
increased wear on the boiler.

At a minimum, the draught limiter must correspond to
the diameter of the chimney and should optimally be
connected 0.5 m below the flue tube connector in the
chimney.  If  that  is  not  possible,  installation  in  the
connection pipe to the chimney is required. Example:
Chimney: dia. 220 mm
Connection pipe to chimney: dia. 180 mm
=>  a  draught  limiter  of  at  least  220 mm  diameter  is
required.
