• Before beginning the start procedure, it should first be
verified that the blade arm is not positioned in transport
mode.
• For proper comprehension of these instructions, we
briefly refer you back to chapter 6.2 of this manual
where the most critical motor functions are indicated.
• Never start the motor if there is dirt or rubbish be -
tween the cooling fin or in the vicinity of the exhaust.
This weakens the ability of the motor to properly cool or
could cause a fire!
• Before running the motor, check whether it has a suf -
ficient amount of oil ( read §11.4.1.3.).
• Stand to the right side of the steering rack so that the
motor’s recoil starter is within arm’s reach.
• Open the fuel tap (if present) by rotating it to the ON
position.
• Switch the general on/off switch to the OFF position (on
the Edge Styler PRO, rotate the red rotary knob to the
ON position; on the Edge Styler STD, turn the thrust le-
ver out of lower position).
• Set the thrust lever to full throttle (hare symbol).
• Close the throttle (CHOKE CLOSE) during cold starts.
This can be achieved (on the STD) by pulling the metal
ring towards the outside or (on the PRO) by sliding the
choke knob to the left.
• Forcefully tug the recoil starter, using long strides, until
the motor starts.
• As soon as the motor starts running, the throttle
(CHOKE OPEN) should be reopened.
• If you fail to do this, then the motor will run irregu -
larly, slow down, release heavy smoke, and ultimately
shut down completely. If this still occurs, then simply
redo the starting procedure without using the throttle
(CHOKE). Should the motor no longer start up, however,
then this means that the spark plug is drenched in oil
and should be cleaned off or replaced.
