Chapter 12 – Programmable Controller
12.1 Description
The electronic programmable controller (PLC) provides precise control of machine functions and rapid clip
cycle time. The system is operator friendly and very reliable. To ensure proper operation of the PLC,
follow these important guidelines:
•
Do not install or operate in areas subject to excessive dust, moisture, oily mist, conductive dust,
corrosive gas or flammable gas, unless in a protective cabinet.
•
Do not subject to shock or vibration.
•
Do not expose to high temperature, moisture, or direct machine wash down.
•
Do not allow cut wires, filings, metal shavings, or clips to fall inside the control cabinet. Failure to
protect the controller and cabinet environment could cause serious damage and system failure.
During emergencies, the PLC output circuits must be turned off, using either the EMERGENCY STOP
pushbutton on the control panel or the main power switch located on the electrical control cabinet.
The PLC will continue to operate during momentary power failures (less then 10 milliseconds). If a power
failure exceeds 10 milliseconds, or if there is an abnormal voltage drop, the PLC will stop and the
operation (output) is turned off. After proper power is restored, the PLC will automatically reset (provided
that the RUN input is set to on).

12.2 Memory Cassette
When removing the MEMORY cassette, lift the wire handle and carefully pull the unit upward. Take care
not to bend the connectors or wire lead connections. Do not touch any electrical parts.
WARNING
: Do not install or remove the memory cassette while power is applied to the programmable
controller. Doing so will destroy the programmed memory, which will require reprogramming by a factory
trained technician.
