Abbreviations and Definitions
The following abbreviations, terms and acronyms are used throughout this manual:
App Application software that causes a computer or tablet to perform tasks
for vPad product users.
Basal delivery A continuous ongoing infusion of an IV fluid delivered at a relatively low
rate. A basal infusion may be periodically interrupted for more rapid
delivery of a bolus dose of the same IV fluid or medication. See also
"bolus", "PCA" and "IV".
Bolus
A single dose/delivery of medication given to a patient in a short period
of time.
Channel
An identification or reference number shown by the vPad-IV app which
represents the vPad-IV Controller unit or a Module. The channel number
corresponds to a numeric readout which is on the front of the Controller
or Module.
Controller
A type of vPad-IV Module which interfaces with the tablet and which
provides means for the tablet to work with up to five additional Modules
in the system. A vPad-IV system will always include at least the
Controller. See also "Module".
Data Log A text file in comma-separated variables or "CSV" format which contains
the individual measurements of time, volume, flow and/or pressure
acquired over the course of a test.
Dose A preset volume of medication or other solution to be dispensed from an
infusion device. After the dose is delivered, the infusion device will
automatically stop pumping or alternatively change to "KVO" delivery
mode. See also "KVO" and "VTBI".
DUT Device Under Test. The infusion device being tested.

KVO Keep-Vein-Open; an infusion delivered at a relatively low rate for
purposes of preventing a clot or other occlusion from developing at the
needle tip inside the vein.
Luer
A fluid connector having male and female parts which are sometimes
threaded to provide a "lock", and which are typically found on IV sets,
syringes, and hypodermic needles; see also "Set".
