4.3.3.2 Automatic testing
All test types support an automatic mode, where vPad-IV will stop the test and evaluate the results when a
user-defined stop condition is reached. While in progress, an automatic test can be stopped manually to
obtain a result representative up to that point in time.
A Test Record for automatic test will include a percentage error between the measured value and the target
rate or VTBI, as well as a pass/fail result which is based on the percentage tolerance defined in the test
setup. See the following Sections for further instructions on how to configure an automatic test.
4.3.3.3 Manual testing
All test types support a manual mode, where the test will run indefinitely until stopped by the user. Other
than selection of the test type, no further configuration is needed.
4.3.3.4 Monitoring pressure during test setup
Test configuration menus display a real-time reading of the pressure that is currently being sensed by the
vPad-IV Module (
Figure 23 ).
Prior to starting a Flow Rate, Piggyback or PCA Pump Test, the pressure display enables monitoring of a
back pressure which may be optionally applied to the infusion device as part of the protocol.
Testing with an applied back pressure requires connecting the output of the vPad-IV Module to a closed
container which can be pressurized or evacuated by an external air pump or other source of compressed air
(see Section 3.5.2 and
Figure 16
on page 20 for further details). The pressure is adjusted while observing the
real-time pressure display on the test configuration menu.
4.3.3.5 Pressure units
The Units button on test configuration menus ( Figure 23 ) allows the pressure units of measure to be set
to mmHg, psi, kPa and other units. The selected units of measure will be used by back pressure and
occlusion pressure readouts and for results which are saved to the Test Record. This is a 'sticky' setting
which is retained by the app once set.
