6 Operation
6.1
Overview
This chapter provides instructions on how to change settings and operate the INVOS™ regional
saturation patient monitoring system. Read this chapter completely before attempting to
operate the system.
Prior to initial installation in a clinical setting, have a qualified service technician verify the per-
formance of the INVOS™ system, including the alarms, per the service manual.
6.2
INVOS™ System Preuse Check
A visual inspection of the INVOS™ system and sensors must be performed prior to use. Visually
inspect the parts, confirming the following conditions are met:
•
The monitor enclosure and monitor should be clean and show no signs of damage.
•
The power cord and preamplifier cable should show no signs of damage.
•
The preamplifier should be clean and show no signs of damage.
•
The pins of the reusable sensor cable connector should not be bent.
•
The sensor should show no signs of damage.
•
Check the location of all cables connected to the INVOS
™
system. Make sure that the patient is not
lying on any cables or connectors. To prevent entanglement and prolonged contact with patient
skin, you can secure the reusable sensor cables with the strain-relief clips attached to the cables. Do
not place the reusable sensor cables, preamplifiers, or cables connecting the preamplifiers to the
monitor in contact with the patient.
6.3
Operational Modes
The INVOS™ system operates in four modes. This manual primarily addresses normal and AUC
and database modes.
Normal mode:
The Normal mode is for patient monitoring and reviewing cases stored in the INVOS™ system
(see section
Run Function (Patient Monitoring) in Normal Mode
).
