AC power
Alternating electric current.
Alarm limits
Preset and adjustable limits for alarm messages. Alarm tones and a bell symbol will activate if
the limits are exceeded.
Area under the curve (AUC)
Area under the curve (AUC) is a metric in the STS adult cardiac surgery database. The AUC indi-
cates the cumulative integral of time and depth of desaturation events below the threshold of
75% of the baseline rSO
2
value (relative decline of 25% below baseline) for rSO
2
.
It is calculated by the cerebral oximeter by multiplying the difference between the threshold
and current rSO
2
values times the duration that rSO
2
is below the threshold. Values are accumu-
lated throughout the operation. Units are minute-percent.

Those trained individuals authorized by Covidien to service the INVOS™ system.

Battery operation
The battery has an approximate 20-30 minutes of operation capacity. Recharge time from 50%
discharge to full charge is approximately 20 hours and 100% discharge to full charge is approx-
imately 24 hours.
Type BF
Type BF equipment provides a particular degree of protection against electric shock, particularly
regarding allowable leakage current and reliability of the protective earth connection. It has F-
type applied part—isolated from all other parts of the equipment to such a degree that the
patient leakage current is kept at a very low level (see IEC 601601-1).
