MODBUS®:

Modbus® is a trademark assigned to Modbus-IDA. Modbus over TCP/IP provides
control and configurability over a network connection. Modbus communication is an
industry standard and allow users to connect the particle counters for setup and
operation on a network.

The Modbus

Application Protocol (MBAP) header is added in front of the Modbus

function and data bytes to form a complete Modbus packet for Modbus TCP/IP
communications. The Header is formed by seven bytes, starting with the two (2)
byte Transaction Identifier. The Transaction Identifier is used to match requests with
responses. The next 2 bytes indicate the protocol used; Modbus is 2 bytes set at 0.
Following the Protocol Identifier, are two bytes indicating length. The length bytes
include the Unit Identifier byte, Function Code byte, and all data bytes. The last byte
is the Unit Identifier, which is always set to 01 (hex) when communicating with a
particle counter.

All commands share a common format at the beginning of their command string.
The first byte must always take on the hex value 01. The second byte is always the
Function. The function values (in hex) supported by the unit are 01, 03, 05, and 08.

Note: All Modbus TCP/IP commands sent to the unit must be preceded by a MBAP
header packet. Some Modbus servers add the MBAP header automatically.
