Enabling security
Security is enabled from the main screen by pressing [
SET
-
UP
], [
MORE
], [
MORE
] to
display the security screen, then pressing [
ENABLED
] (green), followed by [
EXIT
]. The
next screen will be the main screen with all keys grayed out. Pressing any grayed
out key will bring up the log-in screen listing the supervisor and any previously
added users along with their security levels. This log in screen will revert back to the
grayed out main screen if there is no key pressed within 5 seconds. This allows
observance of any sampling activity that may be ongoing. Pressing any key will
again bring up the log in screen. The log in screen will also become the first screen
on subsequent power-ups as long as security is enabled, but without the 5 second
inactive key press limitation. This is due to the fact that on power-up no sampling is
occurring.
Security can also be enabled automatically without exiting the security screen if auto
log off is set to a value other than “off” and the user presses the security
enable
key. Immediately after the enable key is pressed the auto log off timer begins its
countdown. If no other keys are pressed the security screen will change to the
grayed out main screen when auto log off times out.
In the log in screen all users listed who have not yet entered a password have their
names in red, rather than black, letters. This allows anyone to readily determine if
the unit is vulnerable to unauthorized access, and which users need to enter
passwords.
The highest security level is 4; the lowest is 1. The 4 levels have the following
privileges:
Level 4
allows free access to all menus and functions. The
supervisor has level 4 access. Level 4 users can delete and save
programs on the USB jump drive and clone units.
Level 3
users can load programs from the internal memory or the
USB jump drive. They cannot access the [
SET
-
UP
] screen or
therefore, the security settings.
Level 2
users can print reports and clear stored data. They cannot
access the [
LOAD SETTINGS
] or [
SET
-
UP
] screens.
Level 1
users can collect data, select ID’s and copy stored data to
the USB jump drive. They cannot print reports, clear data, load
settings or access the [
SET
-
UP
] screens.
Logging in requires the user to select his name from the user list, followed by entry
of his password. Every newly assigned user (and the supervisor for a brand new
unit) initially has no password and can log in by entering nothing (no key presses)
for the password and pressing [
EXIT
]. It is the new user’s responsibility to create a
password by pressing [
ALTER PASSWORD
] instead of [
EXIT
] at the password screen,
entering a 1 to 12 character password, pressing [
EXIT
],
reentering the password to
confirm it, and finally
pressing [
EXIT
]
again. If confirmation fails, the password
sequence will have to be repeated.
A user may change his existing password by simply pressing [
ALTER PASSWORD
]
immediately after entering the password. As above, the user will then enter a 1 to
