Using the Management Console
The Welcome screen is displayed automatically when you connect to the Switch Module
and Remote Module using a serial cable. You must make sure that your terminal window
is sized so that you can see the border of

symbols around the contents.
Press any key to enter the console menu system. Menu options are selected using the PC
cursor keys: use the up and down keys to move within a menu or list of options, use the
left and right keys to return to a higher level menu or to access sub-menus (as described
in the
Command Keys
section on the next page).
The Console Interface
A typical screen from the console interface is shown in
Figure 4
below.

Menu Location
- Your current location within the menu system – in the example, you
are in the Configuration menu on the Switch Module.
2.
Unit Name
- Typically used to identify the unit by its location (user configurable).
3.
Software Version
- The version of software currently installed.
4.
Menu List
- The options available within the current menu. The asterisk indicates
your current location (“Port” is highlighted in
Figure 4
, for example).
5.
Data Entry Window
- The area of the screen where configuration details are entered.
In this example, this is the Port configuration menu.

Feature Information
- A short description and/or brief instructions on the current
menu item.
7.
Log
- An area that displays the four most recent lines from the log. Primarily used for
trouble shooting. A customer support representative will instruct the Administrator on
the use of this feature should the need arise.
8.
System Status
- Power indication message.
9.
Modem Status
– Provides connect status of the Modem during connection attempts
10.
Port Status
– Provides live information on the status of the individual ports.
