Step 11:
Place three connector straps between the battery terminal adapters (Fig. 30).
Step 12:
Apply a light coating of antioxidant grease to the cup washers and chromed nuts.
Install the washers and nuts.
Step 13:
Tighten all nuts to a torque of 65-70 in-lb (735-790 Newton-centimeters or N-cm).
Step 14:
Make a final check of the polarity of the connections by using a DMM to measure
the overall string voltage at the Anderson connector black (+) and red (-) terminals.
Verify a DMM indication of -50 to -56 VDC.
Step 15:
Install the battery terminal covers over the battery terminals.
Note: Do not install the battery chamber covers until the batteries have been
turned up.
Step 16:
Push the battery drawer fully into place in the cabinet.
Step 17:
Repeat Step 3 through Step 16, for all remaining batteries to be installed.
Step 18:
If all work is complete, replace the battery covers.
8. COPPER AND BROADBAND PROTECTION
8.0.1 Protection Blocks - A maximum of 2,880 protection pairs can be located in side two of the
equipment chamber.
•
Equipment side cables are routed along the bottom floor or the top ceiling area of the
equipment chamber and secured in their appropriate location on the equipment rail.
•
Field side cables are routed along the bottom floor of the equipment chamber and into the
Splice chamber where they are dressed to the splice bars.
8.0.2 Protection Grounding - Each protection panel shall be grounded to the provide ground bar
within the splice or protection chamber. Each splice or protection ground bar is tied to the main
ground bar (MGB) located in the right-hand splice chamber.
