• For excavated pad applications, excavate a hole for the pad and cable conduits in
accordance with the engineering work prints, generally to a depth of 30 inches (76.2 cm)
for standard applications and 60 inches (152.4 cm) for areas where there is heavy frost.
• Use a minimum of six inches (15.24 cm) of sand or gravel as a base for the foundation pad.
This will level the location to accept the pad.
• Use a high-early strength concrete mix so the cabinet may be placed three days following
concrete pouring. Coarse aggregate used in the concrete shall be graded from

4
-inch (1.9
cm) to No. 4 only.
• Fig. 10 shows the arrangement of the reinforcing mesh and the template in the form prior
to pouring concrete (without a power transfer pedestal).
• Power transfer pedestals may be mounted to the same pad as the MESA
®
6 NxT / Calix
ODC-120 cabinet, mounted to a separate pad, or mounted to a pole. Install the power
transfer pedestals according to the recommendations provided by the manufacturer. If
using a power transfer pedestal mounted to the pad, before pouring the concrete, install the
template for the power pedestal into the main MESA
®
pad, located as shown in Fig. 7 &

• When using a pole-mounted power transfer switch, route the

inch (4.45 cm) electrical conduit from the AC end chamber to a point beyond the pad
near the pole location.
