Step 6:
Referring to the wiring schematic label (Fig. 27), use a DMM to measure the
voltage at the circuit breakers on the load center.
Step 7:
Verify that the voltage between the two breaker poles is 240VAC nominal.
Step 8:
Set the circuit breaker that controls power to the battery tray heaters (CB9) to ON.
Step 9:
Verify that the voltage between the breaker pole and the neutral bus is 120VAC
nominal.
Step 10:
Open the equipment chamber doors. Remove the battery chamber cover mounting
bolts. Lift off the battery chamber covers and set aside.
Step 11:
Confirm battery heater operation by turning the thermostat bypass switch (located
on the rear wall of the battery tray) to the BYPASS position. If properly connected,
within three minutes the battery tray will feel warm to the touch.
Step 12:
Set circuit breakers to OFF.
7. DC POWER
DANGER
ELECTRICAL AND EXPLOSION HAZARD - Under certain conditions, batteries can
be a lethal source of electric power. Use extreme care when handling the batteries and
when connecting them to the string.
ALERT
Follow all battery manufacturer's safety procedures, all locally approved safety procedures,
and all safety measures listed in Paragraph 7.0.1. Wear appropriate safety gear when handling
the batteries and when connecting them to the string.
ALERT
Do not touch a battery’s connector posts. Do not lift the cabinet with batteries installed.
7.0.1 Safety Measures - When handling the batteries and when connecting them to the string, observe
the following safety measures:
•
Two people should lift and place batteries.
•
Wear safety glasses when performing any procedure involving the batteries.
•
When connecting batteries, arcing is possible. To avoid injury, wear heavy gloves when
performing any procedure involving the batteries.
•
Do not wear rings, metallic wrist bands, or bracelets when working with the batteries.
•
Do not allow metal objects to rest on the batteries or to fall across the terminals.
