Titan SiliconServer

These are:

•

A public IP address on the

System Management Unit (SMU) f

or server administration.

•

A public File Services IP address on at least one of the GE interfaces. If link aggregation
is used on all the GE ports, only a single IP address is required for all four ports in a 4x1
link aggregation group. If diverse routing is configured (independent configurations per
GE interface), each interface must have its own IP address.

Network Statistics

Ethernet

and

TCP/IP

statistics for Titan are available to monitor the activity since the last

reboot or since the point when the statistics were last reset. Both per-port and overall statistics
are available. The statistics are updated every ten seconds.

A histogram of bytes/second received and transmitted during the most recent few minutes is
also available. The Ethernet History is a graphical display of the Ethernet traffic on Titan. Both
per-port and overall histograms are available.

Configuring the Gigabit Ethernet Interfaces

Configuring the GE ports on Titan requires the following steps:

1.

Creating an aggregation with one or more GE ports assigned to it.

2.

Assigning IP addresses. Add the IP addresses necessary to access file and block services
provided by the server.

Link Aggregations (IEEE 802.3ad)

The Titan SiliconServer supports aggregation of multiple GE ports into logical links. This allows
connection into the server with all of Titan’s GE links in parallel. Link aggregation, also called
trunking, provides two key benefits:

•

It increases the bandwidth of a single connection.

•

It provides increased fault resiliency – if one link is broken, the other links share the
traffic for that link.

Aggregated GE ports share a single MAC address and a single set of IP addresses. GE ports can
be aggregated in arbitrary sets for all ports in a trunk. The Titan SiliconServer is initially
configured with a single port aggregation containing GE port 1.
