Mixed Mode Operation
The Titan SiliconServer allows network clients to share a common pool of storage from both
Windows and UNIX clients. This is referred to as mixed mode operation. Although the Titan
SiliconServer does this as seamlessly as possible, the protocols are considerably different, so
mixed mode operation presents some challenges.
File Name Representation
The maximum length of a file name is 255 characters.
File names may contain any Unicode character. Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows
2003, and Windows XP clients can make full use of this, but Windows 9x and NFS clients only
support the Latin-1 version of extended ASCII.
Case-sensitivity in file names is significant to NFS and FTP clients but not to CIFS clients.
