Chapter 3: Installation
STEP 1D: Configure your computer.
To configure the Hybrid PBX and VoIP Gateway, you must log into its Web-based command center. This requires a computer with
an Ethernet port and a Web browser. We recommend using Mozilla Firefox
®
to ensure complete compatibility with the command
center. Other browsers may also work.
In this guide, the computer that connects to the command center is called the management computer. Initially, it should be
configured on subnet 192.168.1.0 with an IP address that is greater than 192.168.1.2.
STEP 1E: Obtain networking cables.
You will need at least three Category 5 Ethernet cables of sufficient length to connect the Hybrid PBX and VoIP Gateway to your
computer, and the switch or router on your network.
STEP 1F: Obtain PSTN network connections.
If you are going to connect traditional analog phone lines to the Hybrid PBX and VoIP Gateway, you will need your local phone
company to install one or more PSTN phone lines.
STEP 1G: Install a broadband connection.
If you are going to use VoIP to make and receive phone calls with the Hybrid PBX and VoIP Gateway, then you need to have a
broadband connection to the Internet. Internet connections should be made via either DSL or cable to ensure enough bandwidth
is available to handle phone traffic from the Hybrid PBX and VoIP Gateway.
If you are using the existing gateway/router on your network to connect to the Internet, record the IP address of the router on
the LAN.
STEP 1H: Sign up for VoIP service.
To successfully make VoIP calls you will need one or more VoIP lines configured on your broadband connection. Collect the
following information from your VoIP service provider:
• Name of your VoIP service provider.
• Protocol supported by the VoIP line. The Hybrid PBX and VoIP Gateway supports SIP or IAX2.
• Authentication method. The Hybrid PBX and VoIP Gateway supports either SIP username and password, or just an IP address.
STEP 1I: Collect phone information
Gather the following information for each VoIP phone that will connect to the Hybrid PBX and VoIP Gateway:
• Manufacturer
• Model number
• MAC Address of the phone. The MAC address is usually printed on a label on the phone. It is 12 hexadecimal numbers in the
format: nn:nn:nn:nn:nn:nn. For example:
