Changing Device Settings
118814-D Rev. 00
8-41
Parameter:
CLI
Default:
Informational
Options:
Informational, Advisory, Enforced
Function:
Calling Line Identification (CLI) is a further level of
security that occurs before any other authentication (PAP
and CHAP).
Instructions:
There are three CLI values that you can set, depending
on the level of security required.
•
Informational: With Informational set, when a call
comes in CLI is ignored and the call passes straight
to PAP/CHAP authentication.
The receiving unit challenges the sending unit to
identify itself. The sending unit responds with its
PAP/CHAP passwords. The receiving unit matches
this information against the passwords set up on an
existing path. If the passwords are not matched, the
call is dropped. If the passwords do match, then the
call is accepted.
•
Advisory: With this value set for CLI, an incoming
call is automatically matched against an existing
path that contains the CLI number. If the path exists
then authentication proceeds.
The receiving unit matches the incoming number
against an ISDN number in a path and then matches
the PAP/CHAP passwords on that path. If the
passwords are authenticated the call is allowed; if
they are not authenticated, the call is dropped.
Note:
For CLI to operate it must be provisioned on the line by
your service provider; this may be chargeable. CLI only
operates on incoming calls.
