The receiving unit challenges the sending unit to
identify itself. The sending unit responds with its
PAP/CHAP passwords. The receiving unit matches
this information against the passwords set up on an
existing path. If the passwords are not matched, the
call is dropped. If the passwords do match, then the
call is accepted.
• Advisory: With this value set for CLI, an incoming
call is automatically matched against an existing
path that contains the CLI number. If the path exists,
then authentication proceeds.
The receiving unit matches the incoming number
against an ISDN number in a path and then matches
the PAP/CHAP passwords on that path. If the
passwords are authenticated the call is allowed; if
they are not authenticated, the call is dropped.
If no path is found for the incoming number, the
receiving unit will challenge the sending unit to
identify itself. The sending unit responds with its
path name and passwords, and the receiving unit
matches these against the path name and passwords
on one of its paths. If no match is found the call is
dropped; if the passwords do match, the call is
accepted.
• Enforced: With Enforced set as the value for CLI,
an incoming call must match against an ISDN
number set up on a path in the receiving unit. If no
match is made the call is immediately dropped. If a
match is found, then authentication will take place.
Caution: Some international calls do not present a CLI. If the
router is to receive international calls, do not set CLI to
enforced as this rejects all calls that fail to present a CLI.
