Chapter 4: Importing Data

13. When you are finished mapping fields, choose the
Next
button.
The Import Map (Step 4 of 4) dialog box appears.
14. In the Delimiter box, select the delimiter that is used to separate fields of data in the source file. The
default choices are comma or tab. If the delimiter is a different character, enter that character in the
Delimiter box.
15. In the Import Mode box, select how you want the information imported. You have the following
options:
•
AppendAll
, which adds all of the specified information from the source file to the current
MasterDirectory file. (This is the default.)
•
AppendNew
, which appends only new information from the source file to the current
MasterDirectory file. MasterDirectory compares the source file information with the information in
the current MasterDirectory file to determine what information is new.
•
Update
, which takes only the new information from the source file, and places it in the current
MasterDirectory file.
•
AppendUpdate
, which adds the new records and updates any existing records that have changed.
•
Delete
, which deletes a list of records.
•
ReplaceDatabase
, which replaces the database information in the current MasterDirectory file
with the information from the source file.
•
Synchronize
, which compares the information in the mapped fields from the source file with the
database information in the current MasterDirectory file. This option adds the new records and
updates any existing records that have changed (like the AppendUpdate option) and also deletes
data from the current MasterDirectory file if the data are not in the source file.
•
Compare
, which compares the information in the mapped fields from the source file with the
database information in the current MasterDirectory file. When you choose this option, no new
destination file is created. However, MasterDirectory does generate a report in the comma
delimited fields format, which shows the new and updated records between the source file and the
current MasterDirectory file. This report file has the title of the map with a “.cmp” extension and is
located in the directory where the map file resides. You should select this option if you want to
know the changes between the information in the mapped fields from the source file with the
database information in the current MasterDirectory file.
