20. If you want to create an auto-index field with a prefix in this directory, select the AutoIndex Field
check box, and enter the prefix in the associated box.
21. In the Title box, enter the title for the AutoIndex field. (The default is MDID.)
22. In the Prefix box, enter the prefix for the AutoIndex field.
23. When you are finished, choose the
Finish
button.
The Save New Directory As dialog box appears.
24. Type a name for this directory, and then choose the
Save
button.
MasterDirectory will create a new directory with the given name. This process will result in creating
the database index and configuration files with the given name and the appropriate extensions. The
newly created directory is opened, with the display including by default the first four fields. The new
directory is empty, so no entries are displayed.
Refer to "Modifying the Settings for Directories" later in this chapter to specify which fields are
displayed, the directory title, and other display options. The full set of fields as defined in the layout of
the directory will be displayed when an entry is selected.
25. Import the data from the original file by performing the following steps:
a.
From the Data Exchange menu, choose
Import
.
The Import Maps dialog box appears.
b. Choose the
New
button.
The Import Type (Step 1 of 4) dialog box appears.
c.
Choose the
dBASE
option button, and then choose the
Next
button.
The Source Description (Step 2 of 4) dialog box appears.
d. In the Source box, enter the path and name of the original ".dbf" file (that is, the .dbf file you
renamed in Step 1). You may use the
Browse
button to select the file you want to import.
e.
Choose the
Next
button.
The Create Import Map (Step 3 of 4) dialog box appears.
The Field [Offset: Length] box shows the field labels for the source file. The MasterDirectory
Fields box shows the fields available in the MasterDirectory window.
f.
In the Field [Offset: Length] box, select a field that you want to import from the source file.
g. In the MasterDirectory Fields box, select the field in the MasterDirectory window where you want
the selected field in the source file to appear.
h. Choose the
Map
button.
The selected MasterDirectory field appears next to the selected field from the source file, under the
Mapped To column.
i.
Repeat steps f to h for all of the fields that you want to import from the source file.
