External function: Logical connections [ST1] – [ST3]
The VECTOPOWER
provides 3 connections for signal exchange.
The logical connection [ST1] must always be connected. The hardware enable (via pin 1, 2, and 3)
and usually the software enable (via CAN bus or RS-232) as well are effected via [ST1].
The logical connection [ST2] is used for the optional connection of external temperature sensors
to the VECTOPOWER.
The logical connection [ST3] is used for optional integration of the VECTOPOWER into a
VECTOBUS system. The software enable can also be effected via the VECTOBUS system.

Operating modes: Buck converter / boost converter
During operation as a buck converter, a higher input voltage is converted into a lower output
voltage.
During operation as a boost converter, a lower input voltage is converted into a higher output
voltage.
Example of a mobile application
An electric motor is driven by a battery. The battery has a low DC voltage, and the electric motor
requires a higher AC voltage. The VECTOPOWER VP5000 increases the voltage while the
VECTOPOWER VP600 generates the AC voltage.
During operation as a boost converter, the current flows from the battery to the electric motor,
which drives the vehicle.
Figure 7: Application example: boost converter operating mode
During operation as a buck converter, the current flows from the electric motor to the battery and
thereby charges the battery.
