Important notes

During registration you MUST NOT pick up the telephone handset (or any
extension phone). Carry out registration at a time when no-one else will be
using the phone.

During registration, if you see 'rolling' numbers

or a rotating clock

at the top left of the display, this means that the

e-m@iler

is

communicating via the internet. Always wait for

to disappear

before continuing.

Note that sometimes it takes a few seconds for the entire screen to be
displayed. Always make sure the screen appears

in full

CPS (Carrier Pre-Selection)

If you are using the

e-m@iler

on a

BT

telephone line but with an alternative network

service provider,

CPS

can be used to determine the optimum network for carrying the

various types of calls you make. If you are operating

CPS

, then during the registration

procedure…

Doing this will make the

e-m@iler

dial the prefix

(in order to disable

CPS

temporarily) before any call for email, texting, faxing, surfing, services or games.

Choosing your email address

During registration you will be asked to choose a

username

– this forms the first part

of your email address. When choosing a username, please bear in mind the following.

Junk email (known as '

spam

') is becoming an ever-greater nuisance these days (note

that spam is

unauthorised

and has nothing to do with Amstrad/Amserve). Spam is sent

by various e-marketing companies, some of whom send spam speculatively – they
automatically generate every conceivable username from

[email protected]

to

[email protected]

, so it helps if you have a longer username or one which

contains a dot or a dash or numbers – these are less likely to be auto-generated. If you
do receive spam,

never

reply to it – even if the message contains an

'unsubscribe'

option or address. Replying to spam will alert the company that they have contacted a
valid email address, after which they will send you even more spam.
