Advanced settings

Email attachments

As well as receiving simple text email, the

e-m@iler

is also capable of receiving a

limited number of attached file types. It can receive and display one of three popular
types of graphic image:

GIF

JPEG

and

Windows™ BMP

. It can also receive and play

certain types of recorded sound file if they are in

Windows™ WAV

format.

Note that graphics or sound attachments larger than 200kB may not be receivable
by the

e-m@iler

For

graphics

attachments, files of any dimension and colour resolution can be

received, but they will be reduced in size and resolution to fit within the 480 pixel wide
screen of the

e-m@iler

. The picture(s) will always be displayed below any text in the

email.

The

e-m@iler

can display both single frame and multi-frame (

animated GIF

) files but the

latter will not display correctly if transparency has been used (which is usually the case
if the animation has been 'optimised'). The

JPEG

picture support cannot handle

progressive JPEG

images (however, most normal

JPEG

images should display

correctly).

For

sound

attachments, although the

Windows™ WAV

file format can support a large

number of different encoding schemes within the file, note that only the simpler type of
sound file (

Microsoft Linear PCM

8kHz/8 bit mono) will play correctly on the

e-m@iler

Note, when the

e-m@iler

creates an

outgoing

WAV

file (as a VoiceMail attachment), it

uses

Microsoft Linear PCM

8kHz/8 bit mono.

If you attempt to display any other type of attached file (such as

Word™

documents or

Excel™

spread-sheets), a large question mark will be

displayed within the message (sometimes showing the original name of the
file). If you receive such an attachment, you should ask the sender to re-
send the information in a plain,

text-only

format.

If you have added the CopyMail feature (information on

page 133)

to copy all your

email to a PC, then attachments which cannot be viewed or heard on the e-mailer may
be opened on the PC instead.
