Malfunction
Cause
Remedy
Plasma flickers or
pulsates.
Moisture or deposits in the
aerosol tube of the plasma
torch.
Clean and dry the plasma torch
or replace it.
Aerosol pulsates (deposits
in nebulizer).
Clean the nebulizer.
Replace the pump tube.
Plasma too bright.
Power set too high.
Decrease power.
Oxygen in sample
introduction system.
Check for leaks and eliminate
these.
Plasma extinguishes
when nebulizer gas flow
is switched on.
Sample introduction tube
not connected to the
nebulizer.
Connect the tube and check
fitting
Oxygen in sample
introduction system.
Flush the system with argon
before restarting system.
Leak in the sample
introduction system.
Check for leaks and eliminate
these.
No channel visible in the
plasma.
Nebulizer gas flow setting
