on multiple systems. It has all of the viewing capabilities of SceneVision-3D, without the
scanning, data preparation, and annotation functions.
12.5.1
Installation
The SceneVision-3D Viewer is shipped on a separate CD and has a separate user manual.
Follow the instructions in the manual for installation.
12.5.2
Data Preparation and Transfer
Any scene file created with SceneVision-3D can be opened with the SceneVision-3D Viewer. If
you are using the same PC for both programs, simply open the scene from either program.
However, often a scene will be created on one system, running SceneVision-3D software, and
will be copied to another system for presentation with the SceneVision-3D Viewer. In addition,
scenes created with SceneVision-3D will often have hundreds of files – including range and
image files – associated with the scene. Not all of those files are necessary for viewing the
scene.
Copying All the Data
To transfer the entire data set to another PC, simply copy the entire data folder for that particular
scene to a folder on the new PC. Opening the scene file will work with the transferred data.
Reducing the Number of Files
To reduce the number of files you will save the scene with a new name (in the same location as
the old scene file), remove unnecessary files from this new scene, and then save the scene to a
new location (which copies only the files that are still in the scene). This makes it easy to copy
only the necessary files to the new PC.
1.
In the File menu, select
Save Scene As
and give the scene a new name, but save it in the
same directory as the old scene file.
2.
Using the Scene Tree, select files you do not wish to include in the new, ‘presentation’
scene. Select
Remove Files
from the File menu. This will remove the files from this scene
only – it does not delete the files from the folder or effect the original scene in any way.
Note: What files are appropriate to remove? This will vary depending on what
you wish to show in the presentation. You may be able to remove most, or all, of
the original image files (not images that are Hotspots). Those images used in the
3D-model have become part of the model’s ‘texture maps’. You may not need all
of the range files – only those that you wish to show. These files are used for
creating models and annotations – but you cannot create either in the Viewer.
You may also have intermediate model files that are no longer used.
3.
After removing all the unnecessary files, use
Save Scene As
once again. However, this time
first create a new folder for this new scene. (You can do this from the Save Scene As
window or from Windows Explorer). You might want to create this folder within the data
folder for the original scene – but it can be located anywhere. Then, save the new scene file
to that folder. You will see the following dialog box.
