Figure 56 Region selection for masking
Binary and Blend Display Modes
If the
Binary
button is highlighted, your selection will turn black under the cross-hatching. In
binary display mode, the masked sections of the image are shown as black and the rest of the
color is shown unchanged. If the
Blend
button is highlighted the image mask is applied to the
image to display the relative contributions of the different regions of the image. Masked regions
will appear in a neutral grey color – indicating no contribution. (This display is for
understanding the mask – it is not the outcome of the mask operation.)
Subtract Selection
If you have added a selection to the mask, and that region is still selected, you can subtract it
from the mask by choosing
Sub Sel
. This effectively puts the region back in the image. If the
region is no longer selected, you can select it again and still choose Sub Sel. You can also select
a region that is part of the mask and just subtract that part.
Save Mask
Masks are saved, by default, with a photo. If you edit a mask you’ll be asked to save the photo
before exiting. The
Save
button is for saving the mask as a separate entity – in the rare case that
you would want to save more than one mask. (This refers to the Mask Toolbar Save button
only.)
Load
The
Load
button loads a saved mask. The default mask, saved with the photo, is loaded
automatically. This is for the rare case where you want to load a different mask.
Using a Mask
Once a mask has been created, or after one has been loaded, it can be used when applying color
to a range data file. If the Mask button is highlighted, masked regions will not be added to the
range data when
4:Color
is chosen.
