View Menu Controls
Several items in the View Menu pertain to range data. These are just some of the items.
Note: Some items in the menus have keyboard shortcuts. These are listed in the
menu to the far right of the selection.
Data
– Select to view or hide the data. This is used to view annotations, like line drawings,
without the underlying data.
Annotations in this Window
– Select to view or hide the annotations.
Annotations by Type
– Select to view or hide particular types of annotations as listed.
Annotation Layers
– Individual annotations can be grouped in an Annotation Layer. These
can then be made visible or invisible as a group. This function enables creating an
Annotation Layer as well as adding or removing annotations from the Layer. (See Section
8.2.3.)
Line Endpoint Measurements
– In some situations, only the endpoints of measure lines
can be drawn in range data windows. Select this to display the length of the line near the
endpoint. (See Section 8.1.3 for drawing measure lines.)
Bookmarks
– Bookmarks are particular viewpoints that can be saved as annotations. The
choices enable you to create a bookmark, move to the next or previous bookmark in your
list, or loop through all existing bookmarks. These are used, more typically, for viewing
model data and are discussed in greater detail in the next section.
Show Color
– Displays the data with color for color RTPI files, and with intensity values
for uncolored RTPI files.
Show Intensity
– Displays the laser reflectance intensity values for color or uncolored
range data.
Show Intensity Equalized
– Performs ‘histogram equalization’ on the display of the
intensity data. This is a standard image processing technique that can enhance visible detail.
This does not change the data in any way – but can provide additional information about
the data. To return to the standard display, select Show Intensity.
Show Range
– Displays the data with grayscale representing range (distance from the
scanner). The lighter the point the greater the range.
Change Invalid Sample Color
– Some points in a laser scan will have invalid values;
sometimes because they are too far away or because they are of a material that absorbs the
laser. You can highlight those points with a color of your choice using this command.
Change Background Color
- With this function you can specify the color of areas of the
window outside, e.g. surrounding, the actual data.
Show Color Over Missing Data
– When this is not selected, data points which have no
valid range value are displayed with a solid color (the Invalid Sample Color). This makes it
easy to see where there is no geometry data available. If selected, this displays the data
points with either the laser intensity values, or the photo color values. This is helpful for
seeing the whole scene, and for certain plane fitting operations.

Get File Info
– Selecting this displays technical information about the
file in the active window including its location on the computer, the date it was last
modified, its size, and its resolution.

View Change Log –
The change log stores a text description of all
changes made to the data and can be used to track all such changes.
