However, SceneVision software can appropriately transform the image to map it to the range
data.
Manual pictures can be taken with the
Manual Acquire
functions of the Camera Control
software – described in the next section. They can also be taken with the camera alone before,
during, or after scanning with the DeltaSphere.
6.2
Color Scanning Controls
In this section we will describe the various settings that are specified from SceneVision’s Photo
control windows. The initial window is visible at the bottom middle of the SceneVision window
when the Scan tab is selected. It is shown in Figure 20. Additional windows appear as different
selections are made.
With the camera mounted, turned on, and connected to your PC via the 1394 cable, select the
Photo
Connect
button near the bottom of the SceneVision window. Once connected you have
access to the various camera controls.
6.2.1
Camera Settings Window
Select the Settings button and the Camera Controls popup window will appear as in Figure 29.
This window provides the following settings.
Shutter Speed
– All possible shutter speeds are listed in a drop down menu. They range
from 1/4000 of a second to 30 seconds. There are also ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons for increasing or
decreasing the shutter speed a single step.
ISO Value
– There are six different ISO settings, from ISO 100 to ISO 1600, which adjust
the camera’s sensitivity to light.
White Balance
– There are seven preset white balance settings, appropriate for adjusting
the color in a variety of lighting situations including daylight, shade, incandescent lights,
and several fluorescent light settings. You can also select custom white balance settings
created using the camera’s built-in features. See the camera manual for additional
information.
Note: In general, we recommend not using the Auto setting. It creates too much
variation in the images as the scanner rotates.
Note: White Balance cannot be set from this window when using
Manual
Acquire
(see below). During Manual Acquire, the setting on the camera will be
used. This can be adjusted using buttons on the back of the camera. See the
camera manual for additional information.
Image Compression
– There are three different image compression choices; High-TIFF,
Fine-JPEG, and Normal-JPEG which range from largest files and highest quality, to
smallest files and lowest quality. Note that images captured with the HIGH-TIFF setting
will be extremely large. We have found that the two JPEG settings, which produce much
smaller files, are very high quality and are sufficient for most situations.
Image Size
– There are four image size choices, ranging from 12 Mpixel (4256 x 2848) to
1.3 Mpixel (1440 x 960). We recommend using one of the two middle settings.
