19.2.2 Encapsulation and Multiplexing Scenarios
For Internet access you should use the encapsulation and multiplexing methods used by your ISP.
Consult your telephone company for information on encapsulation and multiplexing methods for
LAN-to-LAN applications, for example between a branch office and corporate headquarters.
There must be prior agreement on encapsulation and multiplexing methods because they cannot
be automatically determined. What method(s) you use also depends on how many VCs you have
and how many different network protocols you need. The extra overhead that ENET ENCAP
encapsulation entails makes it a poor choice in a LAN-to-LAN application. Your prestige
supports LLC method of multiplexing.

In Menu 11.1 – Remote Node Profile , fill in the fields as described in the following table.

FIELD DESCRIPTION
Rem Node Name Type a unique, descriptive name of up to eight characters for this node.
Active Press [SPACE BAR] and then [ENTER] to select Yes to activate or No to deactivate
this node. Inactive nodes are displayed with a minus sign “–“ in SMT menu 11.
Encapsulation PPPoA refers to RFC-2364 (PPP Encapsulation over ATM Adaptation Layer 5).
If RFC-1483 (Multiprotocol Encapsulation over ATM Adaptation Layer 5) of ENET
ENCAP are selected,
then the Rem Login , Rem Password , My Login , My Password and Authen fields
are not applicable ( N/A ).
Multiplexing The Prestige supports LLC multiplexing method.
Service Name When using PPPoE encapsulation, type the name of your PPPoE service here.
