Running Belt Replacement
Box wrench; ½”, ¾”, and 9/16”
Deep well socket, ½” and 9/16”
Ruler, 12”
Grease gun/lithium grease
Wire cutters
Carpenter’s level
Rubber mallet
Phillips head screwdriver
1.
Unplug the treadmill from the power source. Ensure it cannot be turned back on.
2.
Remove the side covers (see Section 6.10).
3.
Remove the handrail assembly from the frame (see Section 6.10).
4.
Using the ¾” box wrench, loosen the jam nut and then the 2 belt tensioning bolts
until flush with the tensioning block.
5.
On the side of the AC bracket, loosen the bolts on the idler shaft bearing using the
9/16” socket wrench. This should cause the shaft to slide towards the center of the
treadmill.
6.
Tip the treadmill on its right side (in the running direction) either on the lifting bars
or pieces of wood in order to prevent damage to the fuse holder and power cord.
The AC bracket should be tipped down.
7.
Remove the front set of feet using the ¾” box wrench.
8.
Remove the 4 idler shaft tensioning bracket bolts and pry the idler bracket up to get
as much slack as possible in the running belt.
9.
Lift the running belt up until it clears the bottom pulley on the drive shaft. Push the
belt so it rests on the pulley.
10.
Using 2 people, lift the belt straight up from the side with the idler shaft, with the
belt tilted down towards the drive shaft.
When preparing to install the replacement running belt, make sure to place the belt on
the treadmill right-side-up (i.e. not upside-down or backwards); the runner should be
able to see and read the WOODWAY name on the belt.
1.
Using 2 people, lower the running belt over the top of the treadmill (lower the drive
shaft side first). Let the belt rest on the lower drive shaft pulley.
2.
Lower the idler side, ensuring that the screws on the bottom of the slats fall into the
correct places on the drive shaft pulley on both sides.
3.
Once the belt is in place, push the idler bracket back down and re-install the 4 idler
shaft bracket bolts, but do not tighten them fully.
4.
Re-install the treadmill feet.
5.
Using the carpenter’s level, make sure all 4 treadmill feet are the same height.
6.
Lower the treadmill so it is sitting on its feet. Holding the running belt at its center-
line, lift the belt straight up in order to center the belt on the treadmill frame.
7.
Tension the running belt. Run both ¾” tension bolts back in until the running belt
tension is set on both sides (8.5” [21.6 cm] for Desmo/Mercury models, 8.25” [21
cm] for Path models).
Hold the tensioning bracket level when checking the measurements.
Make sure the bearing on the right side (running direction) stays aligned
(straight up and down) when tensioning.
8.
Spin the belt by hand several times. Check the belt tension once more.
9.
Tighten the 4 idler shaft tensioning bracket bolts and the 2 idler shaft bearing nuts.
10.
Tighten the tensioning bolt jam nuts on both sides of the treadmill.
11.
Re-install the handrail assembly (see Section 6.10).
12.
Re-install the treadmill side covers (see Section 6.10).
