Loopback Mode
In the previous sections, we used a TLB-GbE loopback device for our BERT examples, but
you can also use another 720 DSP or 1G DSP for loopback.
In order to perform loopback with field devices, you must first prepare the device for
loopback testing within the
Gige Testing
screen.
Perform the following steps to prepare a 720 DSP or 1G DSP for loopback testing:
1. On the loopback device, select the
Gige icon from the Troubleshoot
menu to display the
Gige Testing
screen as shown in the image to
the right. Notice that this screen
shows that you do not have an
active link yet since the loopback
device has not been physically
connected to the network.
2. If using the optical Ethernet
interface, you must first install
a SFP transceiver into the port
on the side of the device and
then connect one end of the
optical patch cable to the SFP
transceiver as shown in the
image to the right. The optical
transceiver used with the
loopback device must match
the specifications of the SFP
transceivers used with your other
connected network devices and
the field test unit. When using
electrical Ethernet, simply insert
the RJ-45 connector on one end
of the electrical Ethernet cable
into the port on the side of the
device.
