How and When to Turn the Computer Off
It's a good idea to turn your computer off when you're not using it
for an extended length of time. There are, however, several things
to keep in mind when you turn off the power:
❖
In Windows 95 use either the Shut Down or Suspend com-
mand to turn the computer off. If you have work in progress,
use Suspend because it saves your system settings so that,
when you turn the computer on again, you automatically return
to where you left off. If you’re using the battery, Suspend also
saves power.
❖
Don't turn the power off if the disk light on the system indica-
tor panel is on. Doing so may damage your hard disk, diskette
drive or CD-ROM drive.
❖
If you close the display panel while the computer is on, it beeps
loudly. To prevent this alarm from going off in the future, dis-
able the alarm through the Miscellaneous tab of Toshiba Sys-
tem Control Panel (unclick the check box next to “Enable
audible warning when panel closes”) or TSETUP (disable the
Panel Close Alarm option). See “TSETUP” on page 427 for
more information.
