3.4 Function Setting
3.4.1 PoE Config
1. Overview
¾
PoE
(
Power over Ethernet
)
refers to the scheme that collaterally implements power
delivery and data transmission. A PoE device provides remote power delivery to a
remotely connected PD through an electrical port and a twisted-pair cable.
¾
Advantages of PoE:
1. Reliable: concentrical power delivery budget for the whole system; easy backup;
unitive management of power supply; high security.
2. Easy connection: PD terminal does not need an external power supply; can be
used with the original network’s cable distribution unchanged.
3. Standard: 802.3af-compliant; globally unified PI (power interface).
4. Far-flung application prospect: available for use in IP telephone, wireless AP
(
Access Point
)
, portable charger and network camera, etc.
¾
A PoE system consists of PSE, PD, and PI.
1. PSE
(
Power-Sourcing Equipment
)
: It consists of power supply and PSE function
module and can implement the functions of detecting PD, obtaining PD power
information, remote power delivery, monitoring power delivery and cutting power
supply.
2. PD (Powered Device): It can be classified into two types: standard PD and
