Switch 4005
Flexibility
The modular 14-slot chassis provides a
flexible edge solution for enterprises of
all sizes and the core of smaller networks.
Up to 96 ports of copper and fiber Fast
Ethernet can be installed for desktop
connectivity, while 2-port Gigabit
modules can be used for aggregation.
High Availability and Fault Tolerance
Modular architecture provides flexibility
and future-proofing to keep up with the
demands of a growing network.
Redundant components—power supplies,
fan trays, and switch fabric—help
ensure the network is always available.
Layer 3 Switching Performance
Scalable, high-performance, line-rate
switching for applications requiring
Layer 3. Protocols supported in the
3Com
®
Switch 4005 include OSPF, RIP
(V1 and V2) and Multicast Routing
(DVMRP).
Advanced Security capabilities
Implement security policies on your
network using IP Access Lists. These
policies are implemented in hardware,
thus not affecting switching performance
or throughput.
Ease of Use
The 3Com Switch 4005 can automatically
detect and select the optimum port
speed, duplex mode, and cable connec-
tion (MDI/MDIX). The switch also
incorporates built-in enhanced web
management and configuration to ease
switch monitoring and setup.
The 3Com Switch 4005 is supported by
3Com
®
Network Supervisor with net-
work discovery, topology mapping,
monitoring and alerting for easy network
administration.
Modular Fast

Layer 3 Switching
Key Benefits
The modularity of the 3Com Switch 4005
makes this product an ideal product for
Fast Ethernet aggregation of desktop
PC’s.
The 10/100 operation of its Fast Ethernet-
over-copper modules enables a phased
approach to upgrading the network,
while with the support of 100Base-FX
meets the requirements for fiber to the
desktop. Gigabit Ethernet can then be
used for connectivity back to the core of
the network.
The high-performance, feature rich
Layer 3 switching, together with multi-
media support and advanced switching
features, also makes this an excellent
aggregator for the core of the network.
