System Bleeding
If air enters the power steering system (power steering fluid level is
allowed to drop below bottom of reservoir), the bleeding of air from
the system will be necessary.
Use the following procedure to bleed air from the power steering
system:
CAUTION
Do not operate the vehicle with low power steering fluid
level. Damage to the pump and system will occur.
Power steering fluid is caustic to painted surfaces. If
power steering fluid comes in contact with a painted
surface, wipe and clean the area immediately to avoid
damage to the paint.

Place the vehicle in neutral and apply the parking brake.
Fill the power steering fluid reservoir to the ‘MAX’ mark. Do not
allow the reservoir to empty, otherwise the air bleeding process
must be restarted.
Crank the engine for ten (10) seconds without allowing the
engine to start (if possible). Stop the engine immediately if the
engine starts.
Visually check for any leaks in the system. Repair any system
leaks before proceeding.
Start the engine and gently turn the steering wheel left and right
to full-lock (each side) three to four times.
Check the fluid reservoir and add fluid as necessary to maintain
the fluid level at the ‘MAX’ level mark.

With the engine running at idle, check that the fluid in the
reservoir is not foaming or contains bubbles. If the fluid is
foaming or contains bubbles air is remaining in the system or
the system is taking in air. Repeat steps 5 & 6 again.
If the fluid is still foaming or contains bubbles, find the locate
the source of the air intake.
The vehicle can be driven when air is no longer detected in the
power steering fluid. Make sure the fluid level is at the ‘MAX’
mark before driving.
