7. Boom length/angle detector replacement procedure
When it is needed to replace the boom length/angle detector, refer to the following steps as a guide.
This replacement procedure describes the following steps.
・
Pulling out cord from boom
・ Passing cord through boom
・
Tools and materials needed
- Pipe
To be passed from the rear end of the base boom section to the rear end of the top boom section. This
should be longer than 900 mm (3 ft), with approx. 6mm (1/4 in) O.D. and approx. 4mm (5/32 in) I.D.
- Wire
To be passed through the above pipe to the front end of the top boom section. This should be longer than 9
m (29.5 ft) with a diameter of approx. 2mm (5/64 in).
- Fastener (2 pieces)
To be used for fixing the cord at the boom front end.
- Others
Wrench, pliers, etc.
7.1 Pulling out cord from boom
1) Removing the winch at the boom rear end
The winch weighs about 280 kg (620 lbs) without
a wire rope around it.
1. Remove the piping for the winch and put blank
caps.
2. Wind a nylon sling around the winch drum, and
support the winch by suspending it with a crane
etc.
3. Remove the fixing bolts. (8 pieces)
It is difficult to remove the bolts if there are too
many layers of winch wire rope around the drum.
In such a case, unwind some of the wire rope to
reduce the number of layers.
