Modeling/Calibrating with Elastomer
E20 elastomer is a thermoplastic polyester based elastomer formulated to
provide a tough, flexible material that offers a unique combination of me-
chanical and physical properties. E20 elastomer was developed for applica-
tions requiring flexible models such as window or door seals, straps, gaskets,
toys, or container designs. Models made from elastomer can be twisted, bent,
and flexed.
Preparing the FDM system for Modeling with the E20 Elastomer
1.
Change the head assembly according to procedures found in the User
guide in the FDM Hardware section.
2.
Change the Watlow temperatures for elastomer according to the chart
in the FDM hardware section of this manual.
3.
Install the model and support tips according to the procedures found
in the User guide in the FDM Hardware section.
The custom elastomer tip should be placed in the model
liquefier, and the standard T16 tip in the support liquefier.
When new elastomer material is ordered, a new custom elastomer
tip, seal, and brass brush will be included with the material. To
ensure part quality, change the model tip and brush whenever
you change spools of elastomer.
4.
Remove the model filament seal from the back plate using the 5/16”
nut driver supplied in your start up kit. The support filament seal
remains.
Loading E20 Elastomer into the FDM
1. Slide the E20R elastomer support material onto the shaft.
2. Place the first spacer on the shaft and slide it on until it touches the
support spool.
3. Place the E20 elastomer model material spool on the shaft and slide it on
until it touches the spacer.
4. Place the second spacer on the spindle, and slide it on until it locks in
place.
5. Load both the model and support materials into the FDM head using the
procedure found in the User guide in the FDM Hardware section.
