Appendix
• Verify that the SCSI adapter card is correctly installed in the computer.
• Verify that all the connected SCSI devices are LVD devices. The AIT library
is an LVD device. Do not connect an HDV device to the library.
• Verify that all the devices on the SCSI bus are Wide SCSI devices. The AIT
library is a Wide SCSI device. All the devices on the SCSI bus must be Wide
SCSI devices. (Wide-Narrow adapters can also be used.)
• Make the length of the SCSI cable, which connects the host computer and the
device at the end of the SCSI bus, shorter than 12 meters (39 ft. 4.4 in.). (Use
a SCSI cable shorter than 1.5 meters (59 in.) to connect the AIT library to a
single-end SCSI host adapter, which becomes the end edge of the SCSI bus.)
• Verify that the SCSI bus is terminated correctly. t “SCSI Specifications”
(page 86) in this chapter.
• Verify that the AIT library supports the application software. For guidance on
application software that can be used on the AIT library and on operating
systems that is supported, contact your dealer.
• Verify that the application software is correctly installed and correctly setup
on the host computer.
• Check whether the host computer was turned on less than 15 seconds after
turning on the library. If the host computer is turned on too soon after turning
on the library, the host computer may not detect the library's SCSI IDs.
Data cannot be written or read even though the
application and the library are working properly.
• Verify that the erase-protection tab of the cartridge is set to writable. t
“Replacing the Cartridges” (page 50) in Chapter 4, “Operating the AIT
Library”.
• Use only Sony’s AIT cartridges. Also check whether the AIT drive supports
the cartridges.
• If a cartridge has been used for a long time or very frequently, replace it with
a new cartridge.
• Verify that the cartridge is not damaged.
• Try cleaning the AIT drive. t “Cleaning the AIT Drive” (page 58) in Chapter
5, “Operating the AIT Drive”.
The cartridges cannot be taken out.
Follow the instructions in “Taking Out the Cartridges” (page 48) in Chapter 4,
“Operating the AIT Library”.
If you are still unable to take out the cartridge, please contact your dealer for
assistance.
Others
• Verify the shutter of the cartridge dock is closed tightly.
• Perform a diagnostic test on the AIT library. t “Diagnostic” in Chapter 6,
“Using the Library Administration Menu”.
Transporting the AIT Library
If you are transporting the AIT Library for any reason, such as moving offices
or repairing the library, make the following preparations:
